The Experiential Loop: Why We Are Here

Omniscience, it turns out, has a limitation. It knows everything conceptually — clinically — but experiences nothing directly. To experience, you must have a felt point of view. You must have a somewhere from which to feel. And so Universal Consciousness extends Herself. She sends out tendrils, filaments, fingertips — each one a localised point of awareness embedded within the material world. Each one equipped with a body that can touch, taste, and shiver. Each one equipped with a mind that can wonder and worry. Each one equipped with a soul that remembers, however faintly, the infinite field from which it came. This is what I call the Experiential Loop — perhaps the most original contribution of Undercurrents. It is the cycle by which Universal Consciousness extends Herself into Nodes to gather the one thing omniscience cannot provide: felt, irreducible experience. Your morning coffee, your crushing heartbreak, your moment of unexpected grace — all of it is data that Universal Consciousness gathers through you. She cannot taste or ache or marvel from the undifferentiated vastness of Her own totality. She needs your particular vantage point. She needs your particular nerve endings. One morning in Singapore, drinking coffee, this understanding crystallised for me: the Universe was tasting coffee through me. Every sensation the body registers, every emotion that moves through us, every moment of awe or suffering — it all flows back through the Node to the field. Nothing the body feels is wasted. Every sensation matters. This, as we explore in the book, may be the deepest reason any of us is here.
